I like your suggestion to utilize in-app purchases rather than charging a fee for downloading or adding advertisements within the app. Download fees can often prevent me from purchasing an app, but I am much more likely to pay an in-app fee if I am really enjoying a game.

      Great article!

It’s good to see that the momentum LBS had in 2010 is continuing right away in 2011. The fact that AT&T is now in the game is HUGE, and any enterprise app developer that’s serious about location-based services should really be excited about this news. Also, I’m not surprised to see LOC-AID in the middle of another big industry announcement around location. I’ve followed them for a while now, and can say that they’re definitely turning into one of the key players in LBS. They’ve got a developer-friendly platform with single API to get network-centric location data for pretty much any mobile device. A lot of good info for developers on their site (www.loc-aid.com).

    11. In Women May Welcome Targeting - eMarketer:

As a woman and consumer - I agree. I'm "okay" with being targeted as long as it is for things I might buy. This is when it is important to know your customer.

    12. In 20 key trends from Mobile World Congress 2010:

"It's all about the user experience." If there is one thing I'd encourage companies to consider when investing in the exhibition at a tradeshow - it would be this idea.

From the moment customers, prospects, investors, partners, media, etc. see your presence you want them to "experience" being part of your vision. I often hear from tech companies, "What we do is boring". I disagree with that. For nearly every company on the planet - they deliver a service, solution or platform that enables something special. Time to brainstorm!

I'm not a fan of PowerPoint or advertising for small to mid-size companies. If you are going to dedicate your budget to being there... then do it with a mission to show what's possible. Tradeshows are all about bringing the future into focus. Be creative. Take some risks. And remember... you have to know your audience.

What is your favorite "experience" seen at a recent exhibition?

    13. In Rocket Watcher: A Skeptic's Guide to Social Media Press Releases:

Rocket Watcher is one of my favorite blogs. I think for many of us the idea of issuing "news" solely on social media is a bit scary. Companies (even in the tech world) tend to shy away from using other vehicles besides the classic press release. As April notes here - start with something small and build on your results. Here's a key aspect of social media... it is a conversation. A quick look at April's blog showcases this point. Don't expect to post a fabulous release, distribute some video and get the results April did with her client. That said, taking a little time to engage with those that are listening is critical to understanding your market. Our view... April, per usual, demonstrates what is possible.
